Sugar Plum Tree Ornament

How to Make Festive Tear Drop Shaped Glass Ornament

Sugar plum tree ornament. Picture of sugar plum tree ornament
This versatile decoration can be a sugar plum tree ornament – or an eggplant! The tear-shaped bulbs I had with my crafts supplies reminded me of eggplants, so I decided to make an eggplant ornament. But when a friend saw the finished product, she said it looked like a sugarplum.

I found some photos of sugarplums online, and my friend was right. The ornament does look like a sugarplum! And sugar plums certainly are associated with Christmas more than eggplants are. But I still think it also looks like an eggplant, all dressed up and ready to party.

Whatever you choose to call this ornament, it is pretty and festive and looks good on the tree. This ornament also is very easy to make.

Making handmade ornaments is a wonderful Christmas arts and craft idea. Here is how to make this one.

Materials

Clear teardrop shaped glass ornament

Purple metallic shred (shredded metallic foil)

Green metallic shred

Green metallic craft paint

Ribbon

Instructions

Remove the top from the ornament.

Paint the cap and wire with metallic green paint. Let dry.

Stuff purple metallic shred through the hole in the top of the ornament until the ornament is full. (Be careful. Sometimes the glass edge has a sharp spot. It is best to use the eraser end of a pencil to push the shred through the hole.)

Drape some green metallic shred over the hole so that it hangs down on all sides.

While continuing to hold the green shred in place, replace the cap and wire so that the cap is secure and also is securely holding the green shred in place.

Cut the green shred in different lengths all around the ornament.

Tie a bow around the top of the ornament.

Tie another ribbon through the hanger top to hang it on the tree.

I know you will enjoy your sugar plum tree ornament for years to come!
