I am delighted to report that I have discovered a wonderful muralist who can show you how -- Karen Hetzer. (I'd love to be able to show you myself, but since I currently am working on my very first mural, I figured I had better call in the pros!) Karen Hetzer has created a series of instructional videos on how to paint murals. She also has several videos posted on You Tube. That's where I discovered her! In the videos below, Karen shows us how to paint a palm tree and how to add depth and interest to a palm mural. Let's watch. I know you will think she's as awesome as I do!

Karen Hetzer is a self taught decorative artist who began painting in 1996. She started off painting furniture, covering chests, screens, and other pieces with replications of works by her favorite impressionist artists. She now specializes in murals. Karen strives to provide advice and encouragement to beginners. She believes that with practice and patience, anyone can learn to paint murals. In her easy to understand videos, Karen demonstrates simple but effective techniques. Her intention is to alleviate the beginner's fear and provide a foundation upon which the beginning muralist can grow with confidence. Karen also uses inexpensive acrylic craft paints and regular latex wall paint in her videos.
