My Tree Mural - A River Runs Through It!

by Joanne Beaulieu
(Callander, Ontario, Canada)

My Tree Mural was created in 1994-95. It was my first house and I had always dreamed of doing this. I used pastel crayons. With no experience in this medium, I trusted myself (well, sort of!).

I had many visions of what I wanted but I couldn't get the right colour for my background. So I kept trying new looks.

Finally, I went with blue skies and moved on to my main focus, the tree. What I wanted was a place to think of, where I could imagine being with, my family. The tree was as large as the wall could permit, with branches and leaves stretching up to the ceiling!

Underneath this tree was a place that we could pretend to have a picnic overlooking the river, viewing the beautiful mountains and trees on the other side of the river.

I had come across a booboo if you will and I couldn't clear it away, so I decided to work with it, making it into a bird hidden it the tree. It turned out great.

I could have worked on the mural forever, adding new things all the time. However, eventually I had to sell my house! That was the hardest part about doing such a creation, I couldn't take it with me.

I don't remember if pictures were taken of it. I will have to dig through my boxes of pictures with hopes of finding one.

I can see it in my mind

Thank so much for sharing, Joanne. Your description creates a vivid picture in my mind even without a photo. What a shame that you couldn't take your lovely mural with you when you moved!

I wish I could see it!

This sounds so interesting. It almost inspires me to try to do one based on your description.

Great inspiration

Thanks so much for sharing. We have a mural in the dining room that is done from family pictures. I would really encourage folks to follow your example!!
