Mosaic Sundial Kit

Mosaic tile projects are easy and fun when you use a kit such as the Stone by Stone™ mosaic sundial kit.

This mosaic art kit makes one decorative sundial and comes with everything you will need except for a few common household items.

The kit contains mosaic tiles, a wooden board, wooden sundial piece, glue, grout, sponge, mixing stick, and instructions.

The kit also includes three beautiful templates to choose from. Or if you prefer, you can create your own design.

Other materials you will need besides the kit are scissors, a smooth-edged tool such as a putty knife or spatula (for spreading and smoothing the grout), a bowl of water, and paper towels.

You also will need a bucket or other container for mixing the grout, and perhaps a measuring cup or spoons. The instructions that come with the kit will tell you how much water to add.

You also will need to protect your work surface with a plastic tablecloth, newspaper, or other protective covering. Your work area also needs to include space where your sundial can remain undisturbed while the grout hardens.

Here are the three templates that come with the mosaic sundial kit:

The dimensions of the sundial base are approximately 8 x 8 inches (20cm x 20cm).

The mosaic tiles that come with the kit are safe and easy to work with. They have no sharp edges and can be cut with standard craft scissors. They cannot be broken by hand.

No two tiles are exactly alike. The thickness, height, and shape vary, but each one is approximately 3/8 inch (10mm) square.

The colors of the tiles are beautiful and subtle and are inspired by the colors of ancient Greek and Roman mosaics.

Please read these tips regarding applying grout to your mosaic arts and crafts project. These suggestions refer to the clock kit but they pertain to the sundial kit too.

Take care not to let grout get into your sink. It can harden and clog your pipes. Be sure that you do not rinse off grout-covered sponges or tools in the sink or pour the water you used to clean up the grout down the drain.

This kit is recommended for ages ten and up.
