Halloween Clown Ornament
Ornament Crafts for Halloween or Anytime!
I really like this Halloween clown ornament I created, even though one of my friends thought it was a fish! (Oh well, there is such as thing as a clown fish . . .)
Handmade ornaments make great Halloween arts and crafts projects. This particular homemade ornament makes a wonderful Halloween decoration but it also is very versatile and makes a great party favor, hostess gift, or fun "anytime" decoration too. It even can be hung on the Christmas tree.
The trickiest part of making the clown ornament is painting the inside of the glass ball. But that step actually is quite easy. It just takes time for the paint to dry.
Here's how to make the Halloween clown ornament.
Materials
Clear glass ball ornament (I use the 67mm size, which is about 2-5/8 inches in height, not counting the cap.)
Off-white acrylic craft paint (I use paints that come in squeezable 2-oz. containers.)
Paper shred (I use orange shred but it is not always easy to find, especially the plastic-ky orange shred I found several years ago in Party and Paper Warehouse. Feel free to substitute red shred -- or any other bright color -- to use for the clown's hair.)
Wiggle Eyes (I prefer self-adhesive ones.)
Glue (if self-adhesive Wiggle Eyes aren't used)
Opaque paint markers (extra-fine) in black, red, and any other color you choose. (I used yellow for the clown shown in the photo above.)
Brightly colored ribbon (Striped or polka dotted ribbon works especially well.)
Small empty container, such as an individual serving size pudding container (for paint to drain into)
Instructions
Remove cap from the glass ball.
Squeeze or pour some off-white paint into the glass ball. Roll the ball around until the inside is completely and evenly coated. Set the ornament upside down on the empty container, or if possible on top of the paint bottle, and let the excess paint drain out into it.

Allow the paint to dry. You probably will need to wait at least 24 hours, and perhaps several days.
When the paint is dry, drape some orange shred over the hole so that it hangs down on all sides.
While continuing to hold the shred in place, replace the cap and wire so that the cap is secure and also is securely holding the shred in place.
Cut the shred "hair" different lengths all around the ornament, with it shorter in front for "bangs."
Glue on two wiggle eyes (or use self-adhesive wiggle eyes).
Draw a clown face on the glass ball using different colored opaque paint markers.
Tie a ribbon through the wire loop to hang it. Knot it good and tight so it will not come undone under the weight of the ornament when hung.
There you have it -- a fantastic Halloween clown ornament that you actually can enjoy any time of the year!
