Scratch Art Glitter Pictures
Glitter boards
Scratch art glitter pictures are stunning and are so easy to create when you use glitter boards, a special type of scratch art paper.

This photo does not do justice to the actual glitter effect. I really wish that I could capture just how dazzling the effect truly is.
Glitter board is poster board that has been covered with a glittering holographic film and then coated completely black. Using a pointed wooden stick, you scratch away the black coating, instantly exposing the shimmering, prismatic surface beneath. The pictures and designs you create will reflect light. The more you scratch, the more sparkle you reveal -- and the more dazzling the results will be.
My drawing above consists of freehand doodling done at various times over the course of several days. I did not have any particular design planned out in advance. I only knew that I wanted a space theme. I would doodle a bit, then set it aside and come back later and doodle some more.
It also is possible to transfer a prepared guide drawing to the glitter board. To do this, place your guide drawing on top of the black surface and trace over the lines of the design using a pen or pencil, pressing hard enough to make an indentation in the black surface. When you have finished tracing your guidelines onto the black surface, you are ready to start scratching your design using the wood stylus.
The particular glitter paper I used for the drawing on this page is Scratch & Sparkle™ Soft-Scratch Glitter Board, a product of Scratch-Art Co. It comes in a package of ten sheets (8-1/2 x 11 inches each) and includes one wood drawing stylus. I purchased mine online from Dick Blick as part of the Scratch-Art Variety Classroom Pack .
If you don't want to buy the entire classroom pack, you can purchase just the glitter paper: Scratch-Art Scratch and Sparkle Board .
