Christmas Ornament Kits for Making Glam Satin Ornaments
If you are looking for Christmas ornaments to make, then consider using Christmas ornament kits to make dazzling and ornate satin ornaments.
Satin ornament balls are stryofoam balls that have been covered with satin thread. I made the satin ornament shown in the photo to the left using a kit that I bought at my local Michaels art supply store a number of years ago.
Adorned with pearls and bugle beads aplenty, it is quite awesome and glam, if I do say so myself!
The kit I used for this particular ornament is a Mac Enterprises kit. I don't know whether the kit is still available. Mac Enterprises kits are not particularly easy to find online. I'm not even sure that the company is still in business. But I do occasionally see their kits being offered on eBay or other websites that sell vintage goods.
Satin ornament kits come in different prices ranges. Here are three that I found at Amazon.com. (I have not tried these kits myself yet.)
The first kit ("Holiday Dazzle Sequin & Beaded Ornaments Kit") is reasonably priced at approximately $12.00 for a set of four, and has a fairly simple design. (A design that is "fairly simple" still will require very careful placement of the ornamentation or else it will look sloppy.)
The middle kit ("110th Anniversary Collector's Series Ornament Kit") is part of a collector's edition and is quite a bit more expensive (approximately $25.00). It also makes just one ornament. This ornament is more ornate and also includes faux jewels.
The third kit ("Claire de Rouge 2010 Collectible Ornament & FREE Stand") is a limited edition and includes genuine Swarovski® crystals, a free ornament stand, and gift box. The price is approximately $45.00. The kit makes one ornament.
Some advantages of using Christmas ornament kits are: - The outside of the package has a photo showing the completed ornament.
- Each kit contains all the supplies you will need.
- Kits contain step-by-step instructions.
There is one potential drawback to satin ornament kits. The satin balls do not have the design or guidelines printed on them. You are on your own in terms of placing the pins, pearls, and other ornamentation, except that you do have the photo on the package to refer to which is very helpful, as well as the diagrams that are included in the instructions.
Be aware that Christmas ornament crafts made with kits are not necessarily going to be quick and easy.
On the contrary, although some homemade Christmas ornaments made from kits are indeed quick and easy, many of them, like the satin ornament featured on this page, are quite elaborate. It can take some real time and patience to complete the project and to do nice, neat work.
When you are finished making the ornament, keep the instructions, photo (on package cover), and any leftover materials, for future reference and to use on other projects and Christmas ornaments to make.
There are many different types of ornament kits. Your local craft supplies store probably will stock them only during the months right before Christmas. You usually can find ornament kits for sale online throughout the year.
