How to Make Handmade Taper Candles with Honeycomb Bees Wax Sheets
Making handmade taper candles by rolling honeycomb beeswax sheets is a fun and easy arts and crafts project.
This "no melt" candlemaking method is so safe and simple, your children can join in the fun!
I found a great YouTube video, below, that demonstrates how to make these homemade candles. Following the instructions in the video, I made the red candle shown in the photo to the left.
The instructions are the same as they are for making the traditional pillar Bees Wax Candles except that for the tapered candles, you need to cut one side of the wax sheet on an angle before you start rolling it around the wick.
The materials you will need are:
One sheet of beeswax
Candle wicking
Scissors
The beeswax sheet should be room temperature. Read this craft tip for more information.
Now just take a look at this easy-to-follow video.
Shellie Wilson provides the tutorial in this video. She and her mother Rita Wilson have a wonderful website. Visit it at Craftbits.
The video does not include priming the wick. To prime the wick, wrap bits of beeswax around it and press it in. Or melt a small amount of wax and dip the wick into it.
Also before lighting the candle, cut the wick to 5/8 inch (1.5 cm).
See the "How to Make a Candle" page to learn melt and no melt ways to make candles using granulated wax.
